biography

Growing up with a grandmother who was a dressmaker, and great-grandparents who were tailors, designing and making clothes for her dolls since the age of nine, it seemed the obvious choice for Irish fashion designer Niki Gerety to follow in their footsteps.

While in her final year at college in Dublin, Niki launched her womens’ clothing label selling successfully in Dublin based store Se Si Progressive. She also gained experience working for award winning Irish designers, Quin & Donnelly and Yellowhammer. After graduation , Niki took an assistant design position at Avalon Designs, which she left after 18 months to launch her label in the U.K. She spent 8 years living in Oxford, selling her clothing and accessories through one store in London, two in Oxford and a private collection designed for a boutique in Woodstock, as well as maintaining a stall at the weekly artisan market in Oxford city.

A 2004 visit to Saskatchewan prompted a return visit in 2005 where she spent five months as a volunteer teacher at the Yvonne Yuen Design School.

Based permanently in Saskatoon since Spring 2007, Niki is busy working on her current collection, as well as branching out into costume design for local television and theatre productions including “Stubblejumper”, seasons 1 and 2 of “Rabbit Fall”, the 2007 CCMA’s in Regina, the Broadway production of “Phantom of the Opera” and “Hairspray” at TCU place, “Pride and Prejudice” at the Banff Centre, and commercials for Sask In Motion.
